I looked at the coin on PCGS and I disagree with the grade from the marks that are visible in the true view alone. Idk what their standards for grades are but I think they ought to be a little more conservative. I'm always guessing a grade low so perhaps I need to stop nitpicking. It's a stunner of a coin. It's probably better than any 67 out there. Congratulations to the lucky seller. It must've been quite the bidding war.

You mean 1948. Coin is butt ugly, bullion, worth 10 bucks to me. Looks like someone dug it up. Must have been smoking something when they bid on that one.

If you get a graded coin and pcgs lists it at a certain price I pay that price.. low end.. you’re knocking money off of graded coins.. I wouldn’t sell to you.. just being honest..however, I agree on the ones you refuse to buy.. agreed with your evaluation.

I haven’t sent in coins in years after spending almost $50k within a year having some graded. I inherited a collection of coins that was organized meticulously by generations of men on my Fathers side who would never let a coin be handled by anyone but themselves. My husband and I have owned a coin and bullion store for going on 18 years. What I learned after deciding to finally have a select few graded is that they will never grade any denomination proof coin from before 1900 correctly unless you have a relationship with the company. They make and manipulate the coin market and feel it’s their right to do so. If someone comes into our shop with some ungraded proof coins that are obvious.. I’ll tell them what they have because reputation is everything. I tell them that they should hang onto one or two out of their stash and try to have them graded. Never.. never has one of those customers been able to have that coin graded correctly. Now I know, you think you can trust anyone to do something correctly these days without paying some premium? What a world we live in.. since that year we keep a membership.. we go to events after all.. but, I’ll never pay those companies again to have anything rare graded. With PCGS or NGC stick with your basic business strike. It’s all they’re good for.

I soak them in olive oil for a month or two and then gently clean the olive oil of with worm water and a tiny amount of dish washing liquid and a soft cloth it works better then you think it would but Iv used this method on Australian and English copper Penney's

This is a really good example of the kind of things you should look for that real error people want. I swear the more magnification you have the more ghost errors start popping up. "Huzzah! The eagle's foot has the same bunion that George Washingon got after the winter at Valley Forge." Nope, sorry nobody wants that. If your eye's are good enough and you can use a 10× handheld loupe then that should be all you need. It's a lot harder to get fooled by what you see because you can move the coin. Looking at stills is sometimes deceptive... *cough cough* PCGS TrueViews.

I believe there are many more of these coins out there, so selling it now is the right thing to do.

you need to hold the coin in several angles to make sure is not a weak FG, in some angles it appears like a true no FG but if you change the angle it's actually a weak FG, a true no FG must have no traces or shadows of any letter at all,it has to be clear of no FG in all angles.

Just wondering with todays technology, why haven't anyone developed a way to use an optical scanner to grade coins? You would get a standardization like never before and no more human error in coin grading.
